The Village Stitchery Standard:  Hand-Guided Excellence

At Village Stitchery, we believe every quilt is a masterpiece in the making.  Our studio is dedicated to the "human touch", offering longarm services that are entirely hand-guided.  By forgoing computerized systems we are able to ensure that every stitch is a deliberate, artistic choice tailored to the unique personality of your quilt.  This method also requires never walking away from the machine while it is in operation, a benefit in itself.

Artistry in Every Format

  • Artistic Custom Quilting:  For those special projects that require unique motifs, ruler work, or specialized free motion fills.  We collaborate with you to create a one-of-a-kind finish that highlights your piecing.

  • Hand-Guided Pantographs:  A perfect balance of precision and soul.  We manually guide the machine through edge-to-edge pantograph patterns, allowing us to adjust for fabric tension and bulky seams, thread breaks, and bobbin run-outs recognizing them with the human eyes, ears and feel of the machine often sooner than computers are able to catch these common happenings.

  • Expertly Paired Supplies:  Every project is finished using the same high-performance Glide Trilobal Polyester thread and Quilter's Dream batting or The Warm Company Warm & Natural or Warm & White available in our online shop. For help choosing which one is best for your quilt, visit our Batting Choice Guide.

Now Let's Talk Thread

The Studio Thread Guide:  Precision for Every Stitch

At Village Stitchery, we believe that the thread you choose is just as important as the fabric you piece.  In our studio, we categorize our thread selection by its performance in your hands and under the needle.

The Gold Standard for PiecingAurifil

For the crispest seams and flattest blocks, we recommend Aurifil 50 wt. Cotton.  Its incredibly thin yet strong profile disappears into your fabric, ensuring your points stay sharp and your bulk stays low.

  • Expert Choice:  Use this for precision piecing and foundation paper piecing.

The Master of Longarm & Detail Glide

There are few threads that compare to Glide Trilobal Polyester thread, our studio's go to workhorse.  Its high-sheen finish and lint-free performance makes it the premier choice for quilting, intricate applique, and machine embroidery.  It adds subtle "pop" of light on every stitch without the headaches of breakage.

  • Expert Choice:  Use this for edge-to-edge quilting, custom motifs, and decorative topstitching.

The Strength for Hand-Finishing:  Coats & Clark

When it's time to step away from the machine, we turn to the reliability of Coats & Clark.  For the traditionalist who loves hand-quilting or the maker looking for heavy-duty security on a hand-stitched binding, this provides the grip and durability needed for a lifetime of use.  It is super strong, and pre-waxed so it glides through the fabric nicely and doesn't curl up and knot while stitching.

  • Expert Choice:  Use this for hand-quilting, securing bindings, and heavy-duty repairs.
